Election Integrity
One of the most harmful things being done to our democracy is sowing seeds of doubt about our elections. For almost fifty years of my adult voting life, there was never any question of fair election results. Now we’re being told that elections are, “well run if I win, but rigged if I lose.” Give me a break! That kind of childish rhetoric has very serious consequences which have been undermining the essence and heart of American democracy.
Following in the footsteps of my 87 year old mother (who still works the polls in Loyal), I decided to take the poll worker training and see firsthand how elections are run. As a poll worker and Chief Inspector in my polling municipality, the Town of Belvidere, I have met some of the most civic-minded, patriotic people in our region who are dedicated to ensuring every vote is counted. On two separate elections, after our polls closed, our vote tally was off by ONE vote between the voting machine and the signature book. In both cases we spent 20 to 30 minutes looking for the discrepancy, and in both cases found the error. My point is this … if you don’t think our polls are on the up and up, take the annual training and become a poll worker; or, go and observe how they are run. There is an observation area provided at every polling station. Insulting the integrity of our process, without having any knowledge of that process, is counterproductive and demoralizing to the voting public as well as our dedicated poll workers and election clerks.
In June of 2021, the Wisconsin House Assembly Speaker, Republican Rep. Robin Vos hired Michael Gableman to investigate 2020 election fraud. He fired him 14 months later. What were the results of the Gableman audit that cost over $2 million of our tax dollars? There was no evidence of fraud.
I will defend voter rights and the independence of the Wisconsin Elections Commission.
